Hanomag of Hanover and Henschel of Kassel, both German vehicle and machine builders with a long history, merged their commercial-vehicle divisions into Hanomag-Henschel in 1969; Daimler-Benz took a stake in 1971, and from 1974 the trucks continued as Mercedes-Benz. The holdings consist mainly of the F range of medium and heavy trucks, from the F 45 to the F 86, and the H range of heavy Henschel trucks such as the H 140 and H 261, whose numbers roughly give the payload or engine-power class and whose letter suffixes mark chassis and drive variants.
