The GMC Sierra has been GMC's standalone pickup range within General Motors since 1999, closely related in use to the Chevrolet Silverado, built at, among other plants, Fort Wayne (Indiana), Flint (Michigan) and Silao (Mexico); earlier generations already carried the Sierra name on the GMC C/K chassis from the 1980s. The base 1500 class, with roughly a tonne of payload, forms the volume model, while trim lines such as SLE, SLT, Elevation and Denali order comfort and appearance.
